Feng Shui Principles - 4 Basic Feng Shui Tips For Home

Create a Happy Home with Basic Feng Shui Tips!

It is a proven fact that a happy and clean atmosphere creates good vibes. Home is an extended version of yourself and decorating it is a subtle expression of your inner self.

Feng Shui is an age-old practice of decorating our homes in a way that gets good energy or good chi flowing.

The basic Feng Shui principle is that if we are in harmony with our surroundings, we will have an energy balance (yin and yang). This balance affects our lives positively and is often associated with remedies for specific life problems.

If you are new to Feng Shui we recommend you first read about Symbolic Feng Shui to understand more about Feng Shui.

Inspired to better your life and reap the benefits of Feng Shui? It is a vast discipline, but listed below are 4 easy and basic Feng Shui tips for home. Let’s dig in.

1.    Declutter:

We all know that we work better if our space is organized and clean. We are all, however, guilty of hoarding unnecessary items in our homes. Feng Shui defines cleaning and decluttering as the first step of starting the practice, so the good chi can flow through your home unhindered.

Decluttering  can feel overwhelming to anyone who is new to the concept. Starting with an easy 10 minutes a day will go a long way. Get rid of the things you haven’t used in a very long time. You will never need them, trust us. Inspire yourself to declutter by starting with a small area and slowly expanding.

2. Natural Light and Air:

Make sure that you always allow nature inside. Natural light and air bring positive energy into your home. Let natural light flood into your home. When using artificial light, use sufficient lights for the areas most used, like the kitchen, home office or reading area.

Keep your home well ventilated for the easy flow of good chi. Make sure your windows are clean and open throughout the day. The flow of good chi can also be increased using air purifiers. You can also opt for aromatherapy by using natural elements like incense.

3. The five elements:

The five major elements: wood, earth, metal, fire and water, are essential in using feng shui effectively and making a change. They are used together in appropriate quantities to create a balance and achieve the maximum benefit from their energies.

  •   Wood: The Wood element of Feng Shui represents the season of Spring and new beginnings, originality, spirituality, stillness, new growth and ideas, strength, and intuition. Incorporating healthy plants, or paintings of plants, and the colors green or brown into our decor is a good way of introducing this element in our surroundings. Check out our Table Planters for including plants in your decor.

  •   Earth: This element represents nourishment, stability, support, and patience. Using natural rock crystals, clay figurines, a Himalayan salt lamp, and earthy colors like yellow and tan for wall paint or accessories can incorporate this element into your home.

  •   Metal: Metal as a Feng Shui element represents righteousness, integrity, joy, precision, simplicity, and clarity. The colors associated with this are white, grey, and metallic colors like gold and silver. Using circular decorative accessories like circular mirrors is also an option.

  •   Fire: Representing transformation and expansion, passion, and fame, this element is used for attracting clients, improving your social life, inspiration, and expression. The colors red and orange are used for this element. Pillows or rugs with triangular or zigzag patterns are good examples of objects with the fire element. Check out our Mini Ottoman for introducing the fire element to your room.

  •   Water: It represents abundance, prosperity, movement, cleansing, purification, and the flow of emotions. Incorporating fountains, aquariums, black or navy blue accessories, vases with wavy patterns and soothing images of water, and mirrors is a way of using this element for your home.

4. Colors:

Colors are powerful and capable of altering our moods. They help us achieve visually appealing spaces and also help in creating a good balance of energy (yin and yang) in our home for personal nourishment. Each element of Feng Shui has a different set of colors related to it.

To create a balance of these elements, you must ensure the use of all the colors in appropriate amounts. For example, fire is represented by red and orange, water by blue and black, wood by brown and green, metal by grey and white, and earth by yellow or beige.

Start small and apply these easy Feng Shui tips for your home, which will lead to a happier and more fulfilled life.

Although Feng Shui is a guide to a good and healthy home, the most important thing is being comfortable in your own space and creating a positive environment for yourself.
